Emergency car delivery for missed flight
When a flight to London was cancelled, we delivered a car to the airport in 38 minutes so the client could drive to their meeting.
A senior legal team faced a 5-hour delay after their 06:45 flight to London was cancelled. With a 12:30 property acquisition meeting at stake, they needed to get on the road immediately. We bypassed the usual airport queues to put them in a car within 38 minutes.
The challenge
Three senior associates from Grant & Forsyth Legal arrived at Edinburgh Airport for a critical meeting in the City of London. At 07:05, their flight was scrapped due to technical issues. The next available flight was at 13:40, which was too late for their schedule.
The queue at the standard airport rental desks already had 42 people waiting. Most rental companies had sold out of executive-class vehicles due to the sudden surge in demand. The team had 5 hours and 25 minutes to drive 412 miles. They needed a reliable, comfortable car with a full tank and no paperwork delays.
Our approach
Our booking office received the call at 07:12. We identified an available navy blue Volvo S90 located at our Newhaven holding point. While the driver started the engine, we handled the identity checks via a secure mobile link sent to the client's phone.
We avoided the main rental car park, which was congested with frustrated travellers. Instead, we directed the client to the Terminal 1 short-stay area. Our driver used the tram-lane bypass to avoid the morning traffic bottleneck near the Hilton hotel. This shaved 12 minutes off the typical transit time to the airport.
The solution
We delivered the vehicle at 07:50. The car was part of our Aristocratic blue fleet, meaning it had no external branding or rental stickers. This allowed the legal team to arrive at their London destination looking like they had travelled in a private firm car.
The vehicle was prepared with two bottles of mineral water and a printed route map for the M6 and M1 motorways. We confirmed the fuel level was at 99.6% and handed over the keys. The entire hand-off took 110 seconds, allowing the team to pull out of the airport by 07:53.
Results
The legal team successfully reached their meeting in London with 15 minutes to spare. By choosing a road journey over waiting for the next flight, they avoided a complete cancellation of the acquisition talks.

"The airport hire desks were a mess. Thistrict had a car at the terminal before we even finished our first coffee. It saved our meeting."
