Long-term hire for CFO relocation
A visiting executive needed a car for 8 months while finding a permanent home. We provided a navy sedan with full maintenance included.
A Finance Director from a London-based bank relocated to the Edinburgh office in March 2024. He needed a reliable, unbranded executive car for 8 months while his family settled into a permanent home in the Morningside area.
The challenge
Midlothian Banking Group was initially paying £74 per day for a standard rental at Edinburgh Airport. This was costing the department over £2,200 every month. The CFO did not want a 24-month lease because he planned to buy a personal car once he found a house. Most rental firms had loud stickers on the bumpers. This did not suit his client meetings on George Street.
We noticed the bank was also struggling with the paperwork of daily insurance renewals. The executive needed to be at his desk, not at a rental counter. They needed a car that looked like he owned it, without the long-term debt of a lease.
Our approach
Our team coordinator met with the bank's HR department to discuss the 8-month window. We bypassed the standard 2-year lease requirements that most dealerships insist on. We selected a navy Volvo S90 from our fleet that had exactly 12,400 miles on the clock.
We set up a monthly rolling rate that included full insurance and all maintenance. We assigned a specific driver to handle the delivery and any service needs. This meant the bank only had one point of contact for the entire 8-month period. We kept the car free of any Thistrict branding, as per our 'no stickers' policy.
The solution
We delivered the car to the Edinburgh Airport terminal on a rainy Tuesday morning in March. The CFO received the keys 42 minutes after his flight landed. We handled the scheduled service in July by picking the car up from his office at 6:00 PM and returning it by 7:30 AM the next day.
In October, we swapped the tyres for winter-rated ones at his home address to handle the Scottish weather. This was done while he was at dinner, so it did not interrupt his schedule. We provided monthly invoices directly to the bank's billing department to keep his personal expenses simple.
Results
The bank stopped paying daily rental premiums and avoided a long-term financial commitment. The executive had a consistent, high-spec vehicle that helped him navigate the city during his relocation without the stress of maintenance or branding.

"I was worried about being stuck in a long lease before we found a house. Thistrict gave us a rolling monthly deal. The car was clean, quiet, and they even swapped the tyres for winter without me asking."
