From the first three cars to a fleet of 14
Callum joined Thistrict in early 2018 when we only had three navy blue saloons. He previously spent 6 years managing a logistics hub in Leith. He does not just sit behind a desk all day. Most Monday mornings, you will find him at the George Street site checking the tyre pressures and fluid levels on our 9 Volvo and 5 BMW models. He believes a car should not just look clean; it must feel mechanically perfect for every 45-mile trip.
The 55-minute delivery rule
Our promise to have a car at the Edinburgh airport terminal in under an hour comes from Callum's careful planning. He spent three weeks in 2022 timing the traffic patterns between George Street and Turnhouse. He knows that at 4:15 PM on a Friday, the city bypass is often a mess. Because of his data, we keep three cars staged near Newbridge to ensure we hit that 55-minute window for last-minute bookings. He hates being late more than he hates a dirty engine bay.
Maintaining the "No Stickers" standard
Many rental firms put big ads or phone numbers on their back windows. Callum banned that on his first day. He wants our clients to arrive at their meetings looking like they own the car, not like they are driving a billboard. He personally signs off on the "Aristocratic blue" paint finish for every new vehicle we add to the fleet. If the shade is even slightly off the factory code, the car goes back to the dealer. We currently maintain 14 active vehicles under this strict regime.
Real numbers on the road
Last year, Callum oversaw 184 successful airport handovers. Only 3 of those were delayed by more than 10 minutes due to major road closures on the M8. When that happens, Callum is the one who calls the client directly. He prefers honest updates over automated emails. By the way, he also handles the insurance paperwork for our 47 regular corporate accounts, making sure the drivers are cleared before the plane wheels touch the tarmac.
A practical approach to fleet management
We are not a massive global chain with thousands of staff. We are a small team of 6 people working out of George Street. Callum keeps things grounded and honest. If you ask for a car that does not suit your needs—like a small hatchback for a 4-person board delegation—he will suggest a better fit or tell you we are not the right choice for that trip. He cares more about the 23% of our clients who book every single month than making a quick sale on a car that is not ready.
